Chapter 1
# My Husband Moved in With His Coworker to Teach Me a Lesson. One Month Later, He Came Back… But a Stranger Opened the Door to Our Home.
# PART 2
## What My Husband Didn't Know When He Decided to Come Back
The document Daniel received at the door of our former home wasn't just a divorce petition.
It was also a formal notice concerning a series of financial transactions I had uncovered over the previous few weeks.
Transactions he had made behind my back.
And transactions that explained why he had insisted so strongly on putting the property exclusively in my name.
Daniel stood there staring at the screen.
According to Michael, the real estate agent, the new owners eventually had to ask Daniel to step aside because he was blocking their entrance.
"There has to be some mistake," Daniel kept repeating. "My wife would never sell our home without telling me."
The new owner remained calm.
"Sir, I understand you're surprised, but we have a legally recorded deed. I'd appreciate it if you respected our privacy."
"I paid for this apartment!"
"That's something you'll have to discuss with your wife and your attorneys."
Daniel looked past him into the apartment.
The curtains had changed.
Our wedding photograph was gone.
Where his expensive liquor collection once stood, there was now a small bookshelf.
And near the balcony, a pregnant woman was arranging flowers in a vase.
She was the new owner.
She was creating a home in the exact place where I had spent five years trying to hold together a marriage that had only ever truly existed for me.
Daniel felt a kind of rage he had never experienced before.
Because he had always been the one who walked away.
The one who imposed the silent treatment.
The one who decided when an argument was over.
It had never occurred to him that I might make a decision without asking his permission.
Much less an irreversible one.
## The First Call He Managed to Make
When Daniel realized I had blocked his number, he called my mother.
"Mrs. Martinez, I need to speak to Elena immediately."
My mother was preparing lunch when the call came.
"Good morning, Daniel."
"Where is your daughter?"
"At work, I suppose."
"Don't play dumb with me! She sold my house!"
My mother set her knife on the counter.
"Daniel, lower your voice."
