And it happened when I finally trusted myself enough to act on what I knew.

Logan wanted to turn an ordinary drive to my mother's birthday dinner into a tragedy.

He wanted the world to believe that whatever happened was an accident.

And he believed that afterward, he could continue living as though he'd done nothing wrong.

But Megan and I are still here.

Our mother still celebrates her birthday with both daughters.

And every year, when we sit together at the dinner table, I'm reminded that our lives are worth far more than the money Logan hoped to gain.

I went home that afternoon looking for a car title and an insurance document.

I left with something I hadn't expected.

The truth about the man I'd married.

And the certainty that I would never allow him to control my future again.

The most important decision I made wasn't confronting the person who wanted to hurt me. It was getting away from him and asking for help.

Because sometimes courage doesn't look like standing your ground.

Sometimes it looks like quietly opening a door, walking out, and refusing to return.

Logan had already planned a funeral.

But Megan and I chose to keep living.
